Scanline Tutorial

Step 1:

Start with a new document, 1x2 pixels with a transparent background.

Step 2:

Now, zoom in on the image up to 1600 percent.

Step 3:

Next, using the color #000000 (or any other color that you like), take the Pencil tool using the size 1 pixel and place it as shown here:

Step 4:

Now were going to define this as a pattern. Go to Edit - Define Pattern and click OK.

Step 5 - Final Step:

Finally, let's test out our new pattern. Open up any image that you like, and create a new layer. I will be using this image for the example:


Select the Paint Bucket tool and change the fill from foreground to pattern. Select your pattern and add it onto the new layer. If you like, you can also change the opacity and fill of the scanline. In the example shown below, I have changed both the fill and opacity to 50 percent.


You have just made your very own scanlines!! Wasn't too hard was it?
